Why Choose WWCC for Math?

Math is an important part of virtually every field of study. It helps us solve problems, interpret data and share crucial information with each other. At WWCC, non-majors can learn algebra, business math and more to help deepen their understanding of their subject. Meanwhile math majors can choose from transfer degrees focused on science, humanities or education. Any of them can prepare you to earn a degree from a four-year college. Math can lead to a career as an engineer, programmer, analyst, teacher or scientist. With math skills, you’ll be a valuable part of any team.

Careers in Math

The Numbers Tell the Story

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects jobs for mathematicians and statisticians to grow by 31% between 2021 and 2031. That makes it one of the fastest-growing career paths out there. Why the surge? Think big data. In the modern world, data drives decision making in business, healthcare, policy and more. People who can gather and analyze it will be highly valued in the job market.

Math is also the foundation on which many other disciplines are built. So if you’re interested in a career in physics, chemistry, geology, engineering, economics or finance, you’ll need math to support your work. If you’re not yet sure what you want to go into, starting your college career with a math major can open up a number of doors down the road.

Certificates & Degrees in Mathematics

Students may earn an Associate in Arts degree, an Associate in Science Option II degree, or an Associate in Math Education degree (for students planning to teach high school math), all of which are designed to prepare students for upper division study in math. Please consult with an advisor at WWCC and your intended transfer institution to determine an appropriate education plan. (See Degrees section of the catalog.)
