CTE Dual Credit

The CTE Dual Credit Program at Walla Walla Community College provides high school students the opportunity to earn FREE college credits towards industry certification and/or a college degree while still attending high school.

What are the advantages of CTE Dual Credit?

  • Students save time by earning both high school and college credit simultaneously.
  • It allows high school students to start earning credit toward an industry credential and/or a college degree which can launch them into high demand, high wage career pathways.
  • CTE Dual Credit is free! No tuition or fees are charged to the student.
  • Students gain valuable occupational skills and related work experience.

Student Information

How to register to earn college credit

  1. Enroll in a class at your high school or skills center that is eligible for CTE Dual Credit at Walla Walla Community College. Your high school advisors, counselors or teachers can help you identify classes.
  2. SERS Registration: Register for your CTE Dual Credit class(es) in SERS (Statewide Enrollment Reporting System) by May 1st of the academic year you are enrolled in the class. Your high school teacher can help you set up your account and enroll in classes.
  3. Credit Transcription Request: You must receive a grade of “B” (3.0) or higher to earn college credit. Your high school teacher will enter grades into SERS by June 30th. After that date you can submit a Request for CTE Dual Credit Transcription. You will receive a confirmation email once your credits have been transcribed. This should take no more than a month from when you submit the form.

FAQ’s

Who can earn CTE Dual Credit?
Students in ninth to twelfth grade and enrolled in a high school CTE Class that has been designated as CTE Dual Credit eligible by Walla Walla Community College. Students must meet the registration deadline for the course and earn a grade of B (3.0) or better.

How do I know which high school classes are eligible for CTE Dual Credit?
High school course catalogs should list classes that are eligible for CTE Dual Credit and which college course(s) they count towards. Counselors, advisors and teachers at the high school are also a great resource for discovering eligible classes.

Where are CTE Dual Credits classes taught?
CTE Dual Credit classes are taught at the high school during the regular school day. You do not have to leave your high school campus to take these classes.

Can I earn college credit for a CTE Dual Credit class I took prior to this year?
If you enrolled in SERS during the same academic year you took the class and you earned a grade of “B” or better you can request credit transcription.  If you did not enroll in SERS while taking the class, it is not possible to enroll retroactively and earn college credit.

How do I register?
Talk to your high school teacher about when you need to register. When it is time, they will help you create a student account in SERS (Statewide Enrollment Reporting System), the online registration system for CTE Dual Credit. Once you have created your account you will be able to register for the course(s) you are currently enrolled in.

How will credits get on my WWCC transcript?
If you enrolled in SERS during the academic year you enrolled in the class at your high school and earn a grade of B (3.0) or higher you may request that WWCC transcribe your credit by filling out the Request for Transcription Online Form.

Are the college credits I earn through CTE Dual Credit transferable to another college?
The college credits earned through CTE Dual Credit are part of a specific professional-technical degree program or certificate at Walla Walla Community College. If you would like to transfer those credits to another college or university, it is important to check with the admissions office of the college you want to attend to verify that the credits will be accepted into their program of study.

FAQ’s

How do I apply for articulation with my high school class?
Fill out and email the Request for Articulation form  and supporting documents to the CTE Dual Credit Coordinator. Once faculty have reviewed your submission, the CTE Dual Credit Coordinator will contact you about whether your request has been approved, denied or if more information is needed and what are the next steps.

I have a current articulation agreement for my class. When will my students be able to register for the class in SERS?
If you have a current articulation agreement you will need to fill out the Annual Teacher Assurance form  each school year before a class offering will be created in SERS.

When/how do I renew my current CTE Dual Credit articulation agreement?
Agreements need to be renewed every three years unless there is a change in college or high school course content, structure or pathway that requires an earlier review.

If it is time to renew an articulation, please submit the Request for Articulation form with supporting documents to the CTE Dual Credit Coordinator for review.

Running Start

Follow the steps below to register for CTE Dual Credit:

  1. Enroll in a CTE Dual Credit class at your high school or skills center that offers college credit. Your high school counselor can help you identify classes.
  2. Complete SERS electronic registration for your CTE Dual Credit high school class. This must be completed the academic year you are taking the class.
  3. If you earn a grade of B or higher, you can fill out the CTE Dual Credit Request Transcribed Credit Form.

SERS registration deadline: May 1 of academic year enrolled in the class.

To renew or request a new articulation please fill out and submit the Request for Articulation form and the documents requested in that form. The form and supporting documents should be emailed to the Perkins Program Coordinator: [email protected]

Annual Teacher Assurance Form

If your class has already been approved for articulation and does not need to be renewed yet, please fill out and submit the annual teacher assurance form. Once this form is received, a class offering in SERS will be created for the current academic year.
