Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

WWCC strives to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, not only because diversity fuels excellence and innovation but because we want to pursue justice. We are all responsible for creating a safer, more inclusive environment.

The Office for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (ODEIB) facilitates and supports the development of institutional policies and protocols intended to create a more representative, equitable and inclusive Walla Walla Community College.

The ODEIB aims to provide helpful resources for our students, faculty, staff and community that will inform our ongoing quest for social and racial equity and create a sense of belonging for all. With a collaborative approach to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts, the ODEIB serves as a resource for the identification and analysis of best practices and national trends related to access, inclusion, intercultural competencies, diversity and equity.

Transform Walla Walla Community College’s culture and practices by embedding equity and inclusion competencies that support the success of all students, faculty, and staff.

The OEDI will:

Collaborate with college offices & departments to develop and coordinate outreach and awareness programs designed to increase the enrollment and success of traditionally underrepresented student populations.
Collaborate with Institutional Research & Effectiveness to develop, monitor and analyze measures of institutional effectiveness related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Collaborate and support recruitment strategies for diverse candidate pools and professional training to promote intercultural competencies and a climate of equity and inclusion.
Collaborate with Instruction as an advocate for inclusive pedagogy practices and for the development of courses and curricula that include equity and inclusion.
Help departments, divisions, & committees to develop and achieve annual goals focused on equity & inclusion
Develop meaningful relationships with external populations, including community leaders, civic and grassroots organizations, and federal, state, local and Tribal governments.

In order to create a framework for advancing equity, we will use the goals and objectives listed in the College’s Strategic Plan. We will work with campus stakeholders to continually assess our progress.
