What is TRIO?

TRIO was established by Congress in 1965. TRIO programs are federally funded through competitive grants at over 1,200 colleges, universities, and agencies throughout the United States. TRIO programs are designed to provide academic, career, and personal support to college students who are first generation, are low income, and/or have disabilities.

TRIO is a federally funded grant program designed to provide essential support for first generation, socio-economically and personally challenged students as they:

  • Navigate college requirements
  • Achieve and advance academically toward completion of a degree at WWCC
  • Develop plans to transfer and complete a 4-year degree

TRIO Student Support Services Programs Work!

Data collected over a period of five consecutive years shows that:

  • TRIO students are more than twice as likely as their non-TRIO peers to graduate within 4 years.
  • 93% of TRIO Student Support Service participants maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
