Dr. Chad Hickox is the fifth president of Walla Walla Community College, and he is thrilled to welcome you to the college community. Dr. Hickox became president in May 2020, having served previously as WWCC’s Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer since 2018.

Throughout his career, President Hickox has been motivated by his desire to create pathways to education for students who might not otherwise attend college. He has built programs to recruit historically underserved students to college – including students of color, students without the financial means to attend college, and students who are the first in their family to attend college.

His professional experience in higher education spans nearly three decades and includes partnerships with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Hickox firmly believes that education is transformative for the lives of individuals, families, and entire communities, and that education is crucial for folks to realize their true potential for a rich, fulfilling life.

Prior to becoming an administrative leader, Dr. Hickox was a tenured Philosophy instructor at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan. His Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) led him to study and teach Ethics, Logic, and Political Philosophy, among other topics. He earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Idaho as a Lawrence Henry Gipson Liberal Arts Scholar with an emphasis in History and Philosophy.

President Hickox lives in Walla Walla with his wife and two children. He serves as an ex officio member of the WWCC Foundation Board of Governors and a member of the Board for the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Hickox is greatly appreciative of the strong relationships and support the college has within the community it serves.
