Walla Walla Community College is proud to highlight alumnus Philip Webb, MAg, who recently reflected on his path to becoming a golf course superintendent in the GCMOnline Voices section. After beginning his career in golf course maintenance in 2016, Webb discovered a passion for turfgrass science that inspired him to pursue formal education in the field.
Webb earned an associate degree in Turf Management from Walla Walla Community College, followed by a bachelor’s in agriculture systems at WWCC and a master’s degree from Auburn University. His academic foundation, combined with hands-on experience, helped him advance to his current role at Guyan Golf & Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia.
In his first year as superintendent, Webb faced challenges like irrigation system issues and steep learning curves, but he credits effective communication, teamwork, and his passion for the profession with helping him succeed.
