WALLA WALLA, WASH. – Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) wants to hear from new students interested in receiving Warrior Pledge scholarships beginning Fall Quarter.
The Warrior Pledge makes it possible for students to earn a certificate or two-year degree with their tuition, educational fees, books, and course materials fully covered through graduation. Warrior Pledge dollars do not need to be paid back.
The Warrior Pledge is available to all students who are new to WWCC and live within the following counties: Walla Walla, Columbia, Garfield and Asotin in Washington; Umatilla, Oregon; and Nez Perce, Idaho. Students returning to college after an extended absence are also eligible.
WWCC launched the Warrior Pledge in Fall Quarter 2022, offering more than $200,000 in financial assistance to over 40 students in the first year. Designed to be a “last-dollar” program, the Warrior Pledge complements other public funding grants and programs, such as the Pell Grant, by providing students with the additional funding needed to pay the balance of their costs.
Atenas Lopez, a first-year WWCC student studying business administration, feared that she would only be able to afford her remaining tuition and fees by placing the balance on her credit card. She then learned that she qualified for the Warrior Pledge, which covered about $400 of her educational expenses during Fall Quarter.
“Without this scholarship, I would have probably had to quit after one or two quarters,” Lopez said. “With the Warrior Pledge, I am able to do something really important to me and for my family.”
