Local service club establishes “Student of the Month” program awarding $250 to WWCC students selected by their departments or faculty

The Walla Walla Sunrise Rotary Club is partnering with Walla Walla Community College to honor remarkable WWCC students.

Beginning in September and continuing through June, the Club will announce a WWCC “Student of the Month.” The student, nominated by WWCC faculty or department staff, will receive $250 to support their education.

“We are honored by the Sunrise Rotary Club’s support for our students, and their recognition that the entire community wins when individuals succeed in college, WWCC President Chad Hickox said. “Our students overcome significant challenges every day, and this scholarship program can be just the thing to keep them on track to achieving their goals.”

Walla Walla Sunrise Rotary Club members raise money and support a number of local programs and projects, including the Little Theater of Walla Walla and a .5K race dubbed “The Race for the Rest of Us.” Last fall, more than 200 people participated raising more than $17,000.

“We are an active club that truly cares about our fellow community members,” said Pete Erb, Rotary Sunrise president. “We are excited about spotlighting and supporting WWCC students through next academic year.”
