Walla Walla Community College marks the beginning of Fall Quarter today, welcoming a mix of new and returning students with an estimated first-day headcount up more than 11% over last year.
“We are thrilled to welcome all of our students and prepared to help them achieve their goals,” said President Chad Hickox.
While enrollment totals will not be final until the end of the term, WWCC expects to serve more than 2,600 students between the Walla Walla and Clarkston campuses this fall in state-funded and Running Start programs.
More than 650 students are enrolled in WWCC’s First Year Experience, a popular program designed to support a student’s academic and social transition to college and campus life.
Walla Walla Community College offers workforce and technical training and academic degrees that transfer to four-year colleges and universities. New offerings and enhancements this year include:
- A one-year certificate program in Audio Engineering.
- A new CNC Machine Operator Certificate available in Clarkston.
- Changes within the enology and viticulture program to allow students to attend part-time to accommodate work or family schedules.
- Grant-funding from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to provide tuition assistance to 38 eligible students enrolled in WWCC’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program.
To date, fall enrollment in Clarkson is also up 11% over the same time last year, with the college serving more than 333 students in person and additional Clarkston students served via online instruction in classes shared between the Walla Walla and Clarkston campuses.
