Walla Walla Community College has been awarded a second Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training (CMVOST) grant from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, further strengthening the college’s commitment to roadway safety and workforce development.
The new competitive grant totals $75,136 and is effective immediately. It will provide student financial assistance for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program to current or former members of the U.S. armed services and their families, with eligible students able to receive up to $5,010 to complete their certification. Funds will remain available through September 2028, or until fully expended.
In addition to the new award, the college still has significant funding available from its first CMVOST grant, which supports the same military-connected students as well as individuals from underserved communities. Under the initial grant, eligible students may receive up to $4,800 toward the CDL program.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recognized the college’s efforts as advancing its national mission to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses, noting the meaningful impact of CMVOST programs on drivers, families, and communities nationwide.
These grants reinforce Walla Walla Community College’s role in expanding access to high-demand career training while contributing to safer, more reliable transportation systems across the region and beyond.
