Description
A calculusbased study of kinetics and kinematics including: rectilinear, curvilinear, and relative motion, equations of motion, work and energy, impulse and momentum, rotational motion, and angular momentum. Rectilinear and curvilinear motion in two dimensions is considered, in both rectangular and polar coordinates. Prerequisites: ENGR& 214 and MATH& 152 with a grade of C or higher.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Determine the position, displacement, velocity, and acceleration of a particle undergoing motion along a straight line, or along a curved path.
Determine the relative velocity and acceleration of two particles in motion.
Apply Newton’s laws of motion to determine the acceleration of a particle and the forces acting on the particle.
Apply the principles of work and energy to solve problems that involve force, velocity, and displacement of particles.
Use the principles of linear and angular impulse and momentum to analyze the motion of particles under the action of external forces.
Determine the position, displacement, velocity, and acceleration of a rigidbody undergoing planar motion.
Use the concept of instantaneous center of zero velocity to determine the velocity of a point on a body.
Apply the kinetic equations of motion to determine the acceleration and forces acting on a rigidbody undergoing planar motion.
Apply the principle of work and energy to solve rigidbody planar kinetic problems that involve force, velocity, and displacement.
Apply the principles of linear and angular momentum and impulse to solve rigidbody planar kinetic problems that involve force, velocity, and time.
Analyze the motion of rigidbodies that undergo eccentric impact.
