The Wise-Choice Process -From “On Course” by Skip Downing
In the face of any challenge, you can make a responsible decision by answering the six questions in the Wise Choice Process. If your challenge is emotionally charged, it is helpful to discuss your feelings about the situation with someone first to gain emotional balance. The Wise-Choice process then is a useful way to explore options and take positive action towards resolving problems.
WHAT’S YOUR PRESENT SITUTATION?
What’s the problem or obstacle?
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BE?
-What’s your goal?
DO YOU HAVE A CHOICE HERE?
-Yes…always!
WHAT ARE YOUR POSSIBLE CHOICES?
-Without evaluating them, make a list of options.
WHAT’S THE LIKELY OUTCOME OF EACH CHOICE?
-Don’t have enough data? Stop and get more.
WHICH CHOICE(S) WILL YOU COMMIT TO?
-Make a promise to yourself.
