Values Assessment

“The best things in life aren’t things.”
- Art Buchwald

VALUES:

  • Becoming aware of what you really value and cherish is a lifelong process.
  • Values are unique to each person.
  • Your values lead you to make decisions about your whole life, not just your career.
  • To select a satisfying career, it is necessary that your job fulfills many of your needs and wants. Your occupation should also directly reflect your values.
  • Clarifying your values and their order of importance can eliminate a great deal of conflict as you set goals.
  • For example, if want to own a yacht and a 2nd vacation home, becoming a social worker or teacher is not the quickest way to reach this goal. You must decide which you value more.
  • Sometimes you can have it both but many times you must compromise. Your compromise will be based on your values and their order of importance.
  • Remember values are what you do not what you say!
