Values

One measure of career success is how your work fits with your values-what you hold important in your life.

One measure of career success is how your work fits with your values- what you hold important in your life.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE?

If you have to make trade-offs when choosing a career, do you know what is most important to you? Family schedules and needs, salary, religious and ethical beliefs are common considerations.

WHY DO VALUES MATTER WHEN CHOOSING A CAREER?

If you choose a career consistent with your values, you will likely look forward to going to work and your job will enrich your life.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY OWN VALUES ARE CONSISTENT WITH MY CAREER CHOICE?

Values are unique to each individual, although you often share some values with family and friends. You should not necessarily choose a particular career based on what your friends are choosing or what your parents or spouse think is a good career. At the end of the day, you are the one who must look in the mirror and face yourself and your choices. If your career is consistent with your values, you will be proud to tell others about your job.
