PYTHAGOREAN & GALILEO    
***Participants will explore the first two figures of the 'Four Perspectives in the History of Ideas'. We will look at how the world has changed in response to powerful ideas of our remarkable species. In particular, we will look at key contributions of Pythagoras and Galileo. Reading and videos are included in our study of the Pythagorean idea of Nature as governed by number and of Galileo's contribution to the methods of modern science and experimental inquiry.

Join me and fellow Questers on a five-Saturday adventure to meet and talk with local artists in their studios. GREAT DECISIONS    
***Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book, watching the DVD and meeting in a Discussion Group to discuss teh most critical global issues facing America Today. This year we will tackle critical issues from the relationship between Israel and the U.S. to China's foreign policy.

***Now that you have your digital camera and basic computer skills, it's time to learn the exciting ways you can edit and manipulate your photographs using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Most concepts taught are applicable to other image editing programs as well.

4TH DIMENSION    
***We will discuss concepts of the Fourth Dimension, showing how such a dimension (and higher dimensions) can be thought about, mathematically and geometrically. The meaning of a physical fourth dimension (and higher dimensions too) will be briefly touched. Finally, participants will see a video, created by the instructor, of a 4-dimensional object rotation in the space of the classroom. Surprisingly, moral and theological aspects of higher-dimensional thinking will also make their appearance.

***If you love theater, join us on a day trip to Spokane to see the award winning matinee performance of \"Wicked\" So much happened in the lives of the witches before Dorothy dropped in. Two other girls met in the Land of Oz first! One, born with emerald green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. \"Wicked\" follows these two unlikely friend and college roomates as they grow into different women. BUDDHA AND JESUS CHRIST    
***We will explore the history of gardens, starting in Medieval Europe, and progressing through Italy, France, and England, before landing in America. We will look at the differences and changes in garden form, the evolving variety of garden plants and the purposes for which gardens were created. Who made gardens? Who enjoyed gardens? And, why did they bother anyway? Come join us on an exciting journey through the wonderful worlds which humans have created in order to realize their sometimes radically different visions of green space. *No class 2/16/15.

REMARKABLE ANIMALS    
***Using tried and true poetry formats along with a variety of poems by published authors, you will be inspired to produce a plethora of poems to unlock your inner poet. These formats will include mostly unrhymed, free verse poems such as found, list, autobiographical, biographical, haiku, diamante, as well as William Carlos Williams' well-known poem of feigned forgiveness, \"This is just to say...\" Each class will include time to read, write, and share poems in a low stress, safe, and playful environment. No iambic pentameter allowed!

QUEST FOREIGN FILMS    
***This single session course is a lecture and performance by the Darcie Paino Trio: Lisa Robertson, violin, Edward Dixon, cello and James Cook, piano. Discussion will center on the art of chamber music playing as it pertains to the musical works being performed. The program will consist of trios by Haydn, Beetoven and Schumann. Topics of interest include the process of rehearsals, communication in performance and style considerations for each work. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions. This will be fun!

***Who rescued Jews in France during the Holocaust? Catholics, Protestants, Freethinkers, Jews, Muslims? All of the above! We will watch and discuss four films: \"Weapons of the Spirit,\" \"Au revoir les enfants,\" \"The Children of the Chabannes,\" and \"Free Men.\" We will study all the rescuers of Jews in Europe and why we should teach them when we teach the Holocaust. **See book list for required text.

***Take a bigger look at Deep History (or Big History, as it's commonly called, a subject I introduced in a single lecture a few terms ago). Deep History is the study of--yes--the whole universe. We'll start with the origins of the universe (as well as we understand), and work our way through time and space to the formation of stars and plants, the origins and development of life on earth, the rise of humankind, the history of advanced societies, the indistrial revolution, you name it. This is the history of absolutely everything.

***Stories are the fabric of life and each of us has one to tell. Whether that story is fiction, memoir, creative nonfiction, or essay, the elements of good writing are the same. ***Do you have some basic skills on a fretted string instrument? Would you like to learn how to play in a band/ensemble? Yes? In that case, join us as we learn to put music components together and start a group. You will learn: how to play a rhythm part; how to play a melody; how to play a bass line; and how to put them all together and play a song or five! This class is for fretted string instruments - guitar, acousic bass, banjo, mandolin and the ukulele. You'll need an instrument - I'll give you the rest. *No class 2/16/15.

***Irish-born author Oscar Wilde began his life as an outsider and became the toast of London with his writing and wit, then flamed out his days mired in controversy, prison and exile. Through study and discussion of his only novel, we will explore the meaning and myth of a verbal genius rendered a scapegoat by a deeply hypocritical society.
