My name is Gary Hobbs, and I will graduate from Walla Walla Community College with an Associate of Arts in Applied Science in Automotive Technology in June of 2002. During my two years at WWCC I maintained a 3.7 GPA while working at an independent auto repair shop.

Automotive sparked my interest as a young teenager and I took three and one half years of auto mechanics at Walla Walla High School. I started working at an independent repair shop (air-cooled Volkwagen) the day I turned sixteen. I have worked there since, as a general mechanic including tune-ups, suspension, brakes, restoration, etc.After graduating from high school, I still wanted to learn more. I enrolled into WWCC Automotive Technology program. Since then I have gained an incredible amount of knowledge and invaluable experience. I have especially enjoyed driveability/tune-up related diagnosis. My plan is to start working at a dealership in the eastern Washington area as an automotive technician. I will be taking four ASE tests this spring and am very confident that I will do well on them. I learn quickly and have a great desire to become the best technician that I can. My name is James Hutchinson and I graduated from Walla Walla Community College Automotive Mechanics Repair Technology Program June 2001. I received an Associate of Arts in Applied Science in Automotive Technology.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at WWCC. Even though I had already had a strong background in automotive service before enrolling, I learned many new procedures while enrolled in the WWCC Automotive Technology Program which have helped me to be a better professional automotive technician. |
| While attending Walla Walla Community College, I worked at a large farm in the mornings and evenings which kept me pretty busy. I also tutored students in the afternoons that were enrolled in Automotive Technology. department in the evenings after school. While attending school, I took five automotive ASE tests and currently certified in five areas. Having this certification has certaininly helped me to obtain employment in the industry.
Shortly after graduating, I was hired by the South Columbia Irrigation District in the maintenance department.
My goal is to perform as an automotive technician for a time and eventually open my own automotive repair shop. |

Hi, My name is Brad Huntley. I graduated from Walla Walla Community College Spring 2001. I received a Associate of Arts in Applied Science in Automotive Technology. While attending WWCC, I took all eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification tests and received my ASE Master Automotive Technician certification.
I was brought up in Kooskia, Idaho in a rural area. I worked on a lot of automotive and farm equipment while growing up. It was then, that I decided that I enjoyed working on cars and thought I would pursue making it my profession. |
I learned many competencies while attending the Automotive Program at WWCC. During my second year, I worked in a Co-op program at Walla Walla Transmission. Shortly after graduating, I had an opportunity to be employed at PG&E National Energy Group in an Apprenticeship program. I have enjoyed working for this company and have learned many things to complement what I was taught in the WWCC Automotive Technology program. |

Jose Sandoval

Hello, I'm Jose Sandoval and I graduated from Walla Walla Community College Automotive Technology Program Spring 2001. This is a picture of me at my new employer! I enjoyed my time at WWCC because I learned many new skills that have helped me in my new job!
During my first year, I worked for the Automotive Technology program which helped me learn additional skill to the ones taught during the course.

I also worked during the summer and not only got to do automotive mechanical repair, but also worked for the autobody department and learned some new things there.After I graduated, I was hired by Walla Walla Transmission and have been working there ever since. I enjoy the transmission specialty and also have honed my skills in many other related automotive areas such as; brakes, engine repair and electrical.
While attending WWCC, I completed my ASE testing for Engine Rebuild and am now ASE certified in this area. I plan to take other tests as time allows and become Master ASE certified. I enjoy the automotive repair field and plan to advance in the technology in the coming years. |

Before coming to WWCC, the company I worked for had a reduction in force due to the economy and so I was laid off. I have always had an interest in the automotive field so I decided that I would go back to school to receive my AAS degree in Automotive Technology. I have worked mostly in production-oriented jobs. I worked for a company that makes Arial flags for crop dusters and operated the flag maker machine, preformed inventory and shipment of product. At another employer, I operated a forklift and also prepared product for shipment.
The last two years, I worked for the Walla Walla Community College Automotive Technology department in the evenings after school. I maintained automotive equipment; repaired college owned vehicles and cleaned the shop instruction area daily. While attending WWCC, I learned many automotive tasks in all eight ASE areas. I recently took the Brakes ASE test and currently awaiting my results.
My goal is to work for an automotive shop and hone my skills in diagnosis and repair of vehicles. I want to learn as much as possible and be exposed to all areas of the automobile to be the best automotive technician I can be!
Instructor's Update: Jose worked in Portland, OR for about a year after graduating and then returned to Walla Walla to accept a job at Abajian Motors working in the service department as an technician. He enjoys the job and is eager to learn all he can. |

My name is Luke Klingenberg and I graduated from Walla Walla Community College Automotive Mechanics Repair Technology Program June 2002. I received an Associate of Arts in Applied Science in Automotive Technology.
I have had a great interest in automobiles since I was young. I love to see "what makes them tick"! I decided at a fairly young age that I thought I'd make a good automotive technician. From that day forward, I had a tendency to always tinker on cars. I really enjoy working on them and get great satisfaction out of making them run well and work like they were designed to. My hobby is motorcycling, snowmobiling and building and racing circle track demolition cars.
The last two years, I attended Walla Walla Community College and was enrolled in Automotive Technology and thoroughly enjoyed all the time I was there. While attending WWCC, I learned many automotive tasks in all eight ASE areas. I recently took several ASE test and am currently awaiting my results.
My goal is to work for an automotive shop and hone my skills in diagnosis and repair of vehicles. I would like to make automotive repair my lifelong occupation. |

 Ramon Alejandre
Class of 2003
Ramon started the WWCC Automotive Technology program attending the evening introductory Vocational ESL class taught by Jim Haun and assisted by Alvaro Duran. He learned automotive industry in the English language and and from that point, improved his English and automotive technical skills.Ramon graduated with a AAAS degree in Automotive Technology in Spring 2003. Shortly after graduation, he received a job at Columbia Transmissions Inc. in Pasco, WA.
