  Distance Learning

Distance Learning courses offer you a completely flexible way to attend college. You participate in the course on your own schedule and at your own location. DL courses require a high level of independent responsibility. Make sure you review the various delivery modes before deciding what to take. And if you are interested in any of the online options, do a self-assessment to find out if online learning is right for you.

The DL Office

As a distance learning student, the DL Office is your connection to the college. We are here to answer your questions, and assist you with enrollment, and interacting with your instructors. You may contact us via email at wwcc-dl@wwcc.edu or call us at 509-527-4331 (or Fax: 509-527-4325). Our office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applying for Admission

If you are not already a student of WWCC, you must begin by filling out an Application for Admissions to Walla Walla Community College. You may request this form from the Admissions Office by telephone at 509-527-4283 or by calling the DL Office. Once you have the form, simply fill it out and mail to our address below, or Fax it back (509-527-3661) to the Admissions Office.

Advising Note:

Some courses offered via distance learning may or may not be transferable and/or fulfill a specific degree requirement.  Students are encouraged to discuss course selections with an advisor in order to meet intended goals.

Choosing a DL Course

Review the various modes of delivery and the course descriptions carefully. Most of the courses available today from WWCC are online courses, many use courseware called, Blackboard, to support the virtual classroom.  There are still 5 or 6 courses still being offered in the telecourse format, which is similar to a correspondence course.  Check your quarterly schedule to see which courses are offered and the mode of delivery.

Buying Books

Most textbooks will be carried in our WWCC bookstore, sometimes there are one or two WAOL courses that will require textbooks that need to be ordered, but all other distance learning texts will be carried in our bookstore. There is a link at the top right of this page that will give you a current quarter listing for all Washington Online required texts.  If you have any questions, call the distance learning department at 509-527-4331.

Before the Quarter Begins

Once you have registered, you should do the following:

  • Make sure you know the delivery mode for your course, this determines how and what you need to do to get started.
  • Buy your textbooks as soon as possible.
  • Get any other materials such as, videos, CDs or DVDs required.
  • Be sure you know your instructor's office hours and phone number/email address.
