Ch 2 Cool Hardware:
Write all your papers with one inch margins and doubled
spaced. Look on the Web and find some new, cool hardware that you would like to
share with your classmates – originality is a plus. The paper should have a
summary of your findings (1 to 2 pages in length), including photos of the item
and listing all of your resources. Description, size, cost, use, technology are
some of the topics that should be covered. You need to read your classmate’s
work and reply with comments to at least 2 others.
Ch 3 – Software use: Installing and using
an audio converter
Go to WebCT discussion area and find the Ch3 Audio
conversion topic. There you will find instructions and questions to answer and
post. Once completed with your own post, reply with your comments to at least 2
others.
Ch
4 - Issue Research: Computer Crime
The Issue section of this
chapter focused on cybercrime. For this project, write a two-page opinion paper
about the “right to hack,” based on information that you gather from the
Internet. To begin this project, consult the Computer Crime InfoWeb (see
CoursePort ch 4) and link to the recommended Web pages to get an in-depth
overview of the issue. Armed with this background, select one of the following
statements and argue for or against it:
a.
People have the “right” to
hone their computing skills by breaking into computers.
b.
A person who creates a virus
is perfectly justified in releasing it if the purpose is to make everyone aware
of these security breaches.
c.
Computer crimes are no
different from other crimes, and computer criminals should be held responsible
for the damage they cause.
Whatever viewpoint you decide to present,
make sure you back it up with facts and references to authoritative articles
and Web pages. Post your summary in the Discussion Area of WebCT.
Ch 5 – Building a
Network
Suppose you are living in adjacent dorm rooms with your buddies and
decide to create a LAN or WAN to connect your computers. You may also use an
office for a business setting or your home for this project. First describe the
number, type, and location of the computers that will form your network. Next,
decide what type of network technology you want to use: Ethernet, HomePNA,
wireless, or HomePLC. Create a diagram showing the location of each computer,
the wiring path (for Ethernet), the location of electrical outlets (for
HomePLC), the location of telephone outlets (for HomePNA), or potential signal
interference (for wireless). Create a shopping list of the network components
you need to purchase, and then use the Web to locate prices for each item on
your list. Make sure you supply your instructor with the URLs for sites where
you found pricing information.
Ch 7 – Creating a Webpage
Create your own web page – using the lab in the Discussion Area – Post your
work there. This score will be part of your Unit 2 test score. 40 pts Read
through your classmate’s posts to critic the websites – minimum of 3 replies.
