Searching the WALNET Catalog

The WALNET catalog lists every book, magazine, and video available in the WWCC library, the Walla Walla Public Library, and the Rural Library District.

  • You can search the catalog from any internet accessible computer at http://wwcc.edu/lib
  • Click on “WALNET Online Library Catalog” at the top of the page.
  • You can also search the catalog at the computers right inside the WWCC library front door. Click on “WALNET Catalog”.

How do I start searching?

Do you know the title, author, or subject? Enter it in the box next to “Find this”. Do not use capitalization or punctuation. Click one of the buttons below the white box to select title, author, subject, or keyword. The buttons search differently depending on which one you click:

Title Keyword

The catalog will search the “title” field for any whole or partial part of the words you enter. For example, an entry of “ran” will return books with “ran”, “ranch”, “random”, etc. Omit all initial articles (a, an, or the) and their foreign equivalents. (i.e., “The Robots of Dawn” is entered “robots of dawn”; no quotes.) Results are returned in alphabetical order.

Author

Author’s names must be searched LAST NAME first. For instance, Kurt Vonnegut would be entered Vonnegut, Kurt. Just the first or just the last name may also be entered.

Subject Keyword

Searches the Library of Congress subject headings that the books are organized by. A search of “genetics”, for instance, lists all subject headings related to that heading. If the word you enter is not an LC subject heading, you will be shown the right ones, which you can click. On the results screen, click the “Info” button to find other related subject headings, or the blue number on the left side to see book titles related to that heading.

Call Number Browse

If you are familiar with Library of Congress call number order and know the area you want to search, enter part or all of the number in the box, then click “call number browse.”

Keyword Search (Google Style)

Enter any word(s) or phrase(s) in any order. Use quotes to search phrases: For example, "united states". Use a + to mark essential terms: For example, +explorer. Use * to mark important terms: *internet. Use ? to truncate: comput? would include "computer" "computers" "computing" etc. For example: +lincoln "civil war" "united states" would return only books with “Lincoln” AND / OR the phrases “civil war” and “united states” in the record.
