Library Services Policies and Procedures

The library welcomes all WWCC students and other patrons to use the library. Patrons should feel comfortable to study, work in small groups, use the computers and media equipment, and consult with librarians in an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy toward others. The intent of the library’s policies and procedures is to maintain this atmosphere, safeguard the privacy and security of all patrons, and provide excellent library service to all patrons. The library strives to provide a variety of study environments, ranging from quiet areas to conversation areas to group study rooms. Loud voices, cell phone ringers, or other disturbances that prevent others from studying are prohibited.

  • The library serves WWCC students, staff, and faculty, community patrons from the surrounding area, and students from other Washington State community colleges.
  • Identification (student ID, driver’s license, etc.) is required in order to receive a WALNET library card. Library cards will be issued to anyone with a valid ID over the age of 16.
  • Drinks with lids are permitted, but food may not be brought into the library.
  • The library maintains a “quiet area” where talking and other noise is not allowed.
  • All library materials, other than materials on reserve, in reference, or in the instructional media collection, are available for checkout to all WALNET library card holders.
  • Library policies and procedures for resource selection, weeding, interlibrary loan, circulation, lost materials, verdues and fines are described in the Circulation Policies and Procedure Manual.
  • Cell phones must be turned off and patrons are asked to take their cell phone conversations to the lobby.
  • The circulation desk is staffed at all times, and phones will be answered during the hours that the library is open.
  • No soliciting, posting of flyers or table “tents”, or other advertising is allowed in the library without permission from the director.
  • All library records are confidential, regardless of the source of inquiry. Once an item has been returned the link to the patron who checked it out is broken. Library staff will not reveal patron information, or information about which materials a patron has checked out, to any one without a court order.
  • WALNET Loans, Interlibrary Loans, and other services may be used to obtain materials not available in the WWCC library.
  • The library has no public address system and is unable to page individuals. In the event of an emergency a staff person will walk around the library in search of the patron.
  • Instructors are asked to check with the reference librarian, information services librarian, or the library supervisor before bringing a class to the library. The librarians can then be prepared to help students with the assignment and can make sure that the materials needed are actually available. (See Guidelines for Library Assignments)
