Description
The jazz combo gives the student the opportunity to play jazz in a small group format, concentrating on improvisation I many different styles. The rehearsal schedule will include learning the standard repertoire as well as studying theory with an emphasis on improvisational skills. The combo performs regularly at concerts, school functions, and professional engagements. Prerequisite: Instructor permission.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Demonstrate progressive improvement of individual instrumental mastery.
  • Apply professional rehearsal and private practice skills.
  • Practice, rehearse, and perform jazz skills in a small group format.
  • Integrate theoretical knowledge with improvisational performance skills.
  • Apply skills associated with sight-read lead sheets.
  • Employ improvisation over common harmonic progressions.
