Description
MATH& 254 is the fourth in a sequence of four calculus courses for students who are planning to major in engineering, mathematics, or the sciences. Graphical analysis of concepts is emphasized through the use of technology. Prerequisite: Grade of C or higher in MATH& 153, satisfactory placement, or permission of the Mathematics Department. Formerly MATH 224, Calculus & Analytical Geometry IV. 
Intended Learning Outcomes
Use vectorvalued functions to analyze the position, velocity, acceleration, and distance traveled of an object in motion.
Represent, graph, and analyze surfaces in rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates.
Analyze functions of two or more variables. Determine the domain, calculate limits, assess continuity, graph, evaluate partial and directional derivatives, find and interpret the gradient, and determine extrema.
Set up, evaluate, and interpret double integrals in rectangular and polar coordinates and triple integrals in rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates.
Set up, evaluate, and interpret line and surface integrals.
Interpret the graphical, numeric, and algebraic forms of a vector field. Find the flux, curl, and divergence where relevant. Determine whether a vector field is conservative and, if so, find the potential function.
Apply Green's Theorem, Stoke's Theorem, and the Divergence Theorem.
Access and use technology including a computer algebra system.
Communicate mathematics using relevant vocabulary and notation.
