Description
Introduction to the rules and procedures common to the organization and maintenance of manual alphabetic, numeric, subject, and geographic filing systems. Filing equipment and business documents are used to provide intensive instruction in filing practices. Students are introduced to the basic operation and maintenance of a computer database.

Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes
A. Create structure for the following manual filing systems: Alphabetic Filing, Consecutive Numeric Filing, Subject Filing, Geographic Filing.
B. Correctly index, code, sort, and file typical correspondence and forms most frequently found in offices in the systems listed above.
C. Understand the records management cycle from creation to disposition.
D. Create and operate a database file.
E. Convert a manual filing system to an electronic database file.
F. Understand the procedures for operation and control of automated storage systems.
G. Solve information management problems using concepts and tools explored and learned in course.
