Master Course Outline Medical Transcription I Course Number: OT 115 Credits: 5 Hours per Quarter: 50 Lecture Hours:50 Description Fundamental course in transcribing medical documents from sound files using word processing software and foot pedal. Instruction on developing listening skills by applying correct grammar, punctuation, and format to medical documents. Designed specifically for medical majors. Recommended: BUS 136 and OT 125. Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes A. Demonstrate ability to apply correct punctuation, grammar, and word usage to business, legal, and medical documents. B. Demonstrate ability to apply correct format to business, legal, and medical documents. C. Demonstrate ability to transcribe at a rate of 15 wpm on a 15-minute timing. D. Identify rules from the Gregg Reference Manual to indicate reasons for errors in transcribing documents.
