Description
Prepares the student to perform competently and safely in a clinical setting as a phlebotomy technician. The student learns to collect, handle, transport, and process blood specimens for analysis. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be eligible to sit for examination for certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Recommended: READ 088.

Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes
A. Demonstrate proficiency in clinical skills of a phlebotomist.
B. Identify anatomy and perform correct procedures for specimen collection.
C. Understand medical terminology.
D. Demonstrate behaviors that maintain and respect client’s rights.
E. Develop effective communication and interpersonal skills.
F. Provide care in a safe manner adhering to principals of infection control.
