Description
Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to take the State exam for Certification as a Nursing Assistant. Prerequisites: Required placement testing READ 088 or CASAS Level V, successful completion of criminal background checks, and current required immunizations. Tuition plus additional lab and malpractice fee, textbook, gait belt and blood pressure kit are required. |

Skills and Attitude Outcomes |
A. Provide an overview of the health care system and role of nursing assistant.
B. Develop a basic understanding of the laws and regulations that affect the practice of the nursing assistant.
C. Demonstrate behavior that promotes client's rights and independence.
D. Perform safety and emergency procedures necessary to maintain a clean and safe working and living environment.
E. Identify procedures and techniques to prevent the spread of microorganisms.
F. Develop effective communication skills in order to function as a member of the nursing team.
G. Demonstrate basic personal care skills.
H. Demonstrate the ability to incorporate principles and skills of restorative nursing care.
I. Provide basic technical skills that recognize individual cultural and religious diversity.
J. Implement care for the dying client and their families.
K. Demonstrate the ability to identify the psycho-social characteristics of all clients including persons with mental retardation, mental illness, dementia, Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.
