Master Course Outline Leadership Course Number: FCA 299 Credits: 3 Hours per Quarter: 30 Lecture Hours:30 Description Introduces the Fire Science student to leadership and influencing skills among emergency personnel. It will explain why effective leadership begins with personal insight and development, describe various leadership models, explore the value of trust in an organization, how to acquire personal influence, and how leaders create a work environment fostering leadership in others. In addition, the students will discuss the decision-making process especially in a crisis.   Prerequisite: FCA 115 or instructor permission. Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes A. Identify factors that underlie thought processes that affect the ability to lead. B. Describe how individuals respond to change. C. Explore the various leadership models as found in organizations. D. Describe the role of trust as it relates to emergency personnel. E. Identify behaviors that build trust or mistrust. F. Recognize the need for and importance of using personal influence. G. Describe strategies to foster leadership. H. Discuss how problem solving and decision-making techniques are used in a crisis.
