Master Course Outline Uniform Fire Codes and Inspections Course Number: FCA 190 Credits: 4 Hours per Quarter: 40 Lecture Hours:40 Description Study of the Uniform Fire Code as it applies to fire prevention inspections at the fire company level. Includes the Fire Code's relationship to the Uniform Building Code and other recognized standards. Special attention is given to the establishment and maintenance of model codes, the inspection process, and developing an understanding of the administrative section of the Uniform Fire Codes and the Uniform Building Codes. Discussion of public relations and alternate methods and materials give the course a realistic approach to field applications. Prerequisite: FCA 115 or instructor permission. Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes A. Describe the model code process. B. Demonstrate the essentials when conducting a fire inspection. C. Describe the Classification System used by the model building codes to group building by use and occupancy classifications. D. List types of construction and building limitations. E. Describe built in fire protection systems. F. Define and discuss means of egress. G. Describe NFPA 550 “The Fire Safety Concepts Tree” and it’s uses. H. Describe the maintenance of fire protection systems. I. Describe the control area concept of materials management.
