Master Course Outline Fire Tactics I Course Number: FCA 160 Credits: 3 Hours per Quarter: 30 Lecture Hours:30 Description Addresses training in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of basic fire tactics at the responding officer level. Principle elements include pre-fire planning, size-up, fire simulation, fire behavior, organizational structures, tactics, strategy, resource requirements, and allocation of resources. Prerequisite: FCA 115 or instructor permission. Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes A. Describe the supervisory roles and responsibilities associated with fire ground operations. B. Describe the importance of and principles of maintaining company level readiness. C. Describe the importance of and principles of effective fire ground communications. D. Describe common characteristics of building construction and their associated fire behavior factors. E. Describe the importance of and principles of pre-incident preparation. F. Describe the requirements associated with fire ground operations. G. Describe the tactical considerations associated with ventilation and rescue. H. Describe the tactical considerations associated with fire confinement and extinguishment. I. Describe tactical considerations associated with water supply and exposure protection. J. Describe the tactical considerations associated with salvage, overhaul, and support activities. K. Apply the principles of effective strategy and tactics to a series of given structural fire simulations.
