Overview of issues, trends, and policies in education. Topics include: social, political, economic, and educational issues that influence the education of children. Recommended: READ 088. Student may not earn credit for both ECE 261 and ED 261. |

Skills and Attitude Outcomes |
A. Ability to list, with 80% accuracy, the historical events, people, and theories that have influenced the current Early Childhood Education practices.
B. Ability to describe and compare the various Early Childhood Education program philosophies.
C. Ability to express personal position on Early Childhood Education.
D. Ability to identify and analyze, with 80% accuracy, the various issues that cause current dilemmas in Early Childhood Education professionals and the families they serve.
E. Ability to predict trends that impact and influence the direction of Early Childhood Education and its progress in the next ten years.
F. Knowledge of strategies to stay current as a professional and advocate in Early Childhood Education.
G. Ability to begin to implement the information learned in promoting developmentally appropriate education for their students.
H. Knowledge of the importance of early childhood educators' role in society as a productive and caring professional in the field of Early Childhood Education.
