Description
Introduction to growth, development, and guidance of school age children in childcare settings, including social, cognitive, emotional, moral, physical, and self development; guidance and communication; conflict resolution; and working with families involved in school-age programs. Recommended: READ 088. |
Intended
Skills and Attitude Outcomes |
A. Students will practice conducting systematic, objective observations of children and programs and will demonstrate how to use information to plan for groups and programs.
B. Students will learn how to create interest areas and plan activities that are balanced and varied (indoor, outdoor, active, quiet, individual, large group and small group, multi age).
C. Students will learn how to provide opportunities for children to make choices.
D. Students will learn the primary role of school age staff in facilitating children's involvement in after school programs.
E. Students will learn how to encourage children to be part of a community when in the after school program and in the larger world beyond.
F. Students will demonstrate human interaction that shows appropriate staff practices to facilitate children's growth and learning.
G. Students will be able to identify characteristics of appropriate environments for high quality programs.
H. Students will demonstrate competence in planning and implementing after school program activities.
I. Students will identify appropriate programming for out of school hours.
