Description
Explore the characteristics of children with special needs. Topics include history and legislation affecting special education as well as causes and classification of handicapping conditions. Methods to teach all children are practiced. Recommended: READ 088. Student may not earn credit for both ECE 155 and EDUC& 203.

Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes
A. List with 80% accuracy historical events, people, and theories that have influenced the current special education field in education.
B. Describe and compare various programs and philosophies involved in special education.
C. Identify and analyze issues in special education field.
D. Predict trends that will impact the future of special education and its progress.
E. Identify strategies to keep current as a professional.
F. Begin to implement information to promote developmentally appropriate education for special needs students.
G. Understand role of paraeducator and ethical responsibilities.
