Description
Provides student experience in an early care setting. The student integrates experience and knowledge of young children in planning and assisting as preschool teacher/preschool teacher's assistant. Topics include environments, curriculum evaluation, staff relationships, and code of ethics. Prerequisites: ECE 191 and instructor permission. Recommended: READ 088. |
Intended
Skills and Attitude Outcomes |
A. Student will be able to observe and participate as a preschool teacher/preschool teacher assistant in an early childhood setting. Experiences will be documented in a journal.
B. Student will be able to work individually with children in learning activities in classroom. Students will document experiences in journal.
C. Student will be able to assist in maintaining the physical environment in a safe and inviting atmosphere for children and teachers.
D. Student will be able to accept supervision and direction from lead teacher and/or director in the classroom and from supervisory teacher from WWCC.
E. Student will be able to read and demonstrate understanding of the NAEYC Code of Ethics. Be prepared to discuss in class.
F. Student will be able to complete two observations in designated areas: 1) Special Education or ESL (English As A Second Language) classroom
2) Same grade level at different school.
G. Student will arrange for two visits by supervising teacher from WWCC, to your practicum classroom.
H. Student will maintain a confidential journal of the forty hours of lab experience including activities completed, observations and questions, and reactions and discussions with day care center director and instructor. This journal will be read only by the WWCC instructor during the quarter. It will be turned in at each seminar.
I. Student will keep a list of questions that they have during the quarter and bring them to each seminar. "Burning issues" will be discussed.
J. Student will complete weekly assigned readings.
K. Student will complete group research project and evaluations.
