Description
Understand and explore language development and literacy from birth through elementary school. Topics include typical and delayed language development, facilitation and modeling of literacy techniques for preschool, elementary children, special needs students, and ESL students. Recommended: READ 088. Student may not earn credit for both ECE 137 and ED 137. |

Skills and Attitude Outcomes |
A. Knowledge of major factors influencing language development.
B. Ability to observe children in four different settings, as directed.
C. Knowledge of strategies to promote, facilitate, and extend language and literacy for typically developing, special needs, and ESL students.
D. Ability to recognize language developmental stages.
E. Ability to reflect on language development topics and experiences on a weekly basis throughout the quarter.
