Master Course Outline Engineering Design Fundamentals Course Number: CET 221 Credits: 5 Hours per Quarter: 50 Lecture Hours:50 Description A capstone course for advanced students that requires all civil engineering technologies in the production of a design project. Examines environmental and permit issues for a typical public works project, preliminary engineering and surveying, project prospectus development, design calculations, plan development, specification writing, and cost estimates. Oral and written reports are required. Prerequisites: CET 161 and ENGR& 225. Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes A. Understanding of the process of obtaining permits for a typical civil project. B. Ability to write project prospectus. C. Ability to do preliminary and topographical survey. D. Knowledge of GPS and total station survey equipment. E. Ability to solve design problems. F. Ability to work in a team setting. G. Ability to schedule and plan work loads for term project. H. Ability to prepare design and contract documents for term project.
