Description
This course builds on the fundamentals learned in Ceramics II. The emphasis is on learning more complicated wheel throwing techniues to create a set of two plates, four mugs, two cup and saucer sets, large bowls, lids, and deep footed vases. More decorative techniques will be applied to a greater range of shapes. Participating in the loading and firing of the gas kiln. Choosing, making, refining, and testing a glaze recipe. Personal creativity is always emphasized. Lab hours required and materials to be purchased.

Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes
Assessment based upon completion of ceramic projects and presentations, and performance on midterm and final critique (includes framing and presentation of the finished ceramic piece[s]): demonstrating knowledge and skill related to a brief history of ceramic arts, the vocabulary of and for the ceramic arts, the basic principles of 3-D design, the roles of the artist/potter and the observer, and the materials and methods used in the ceramic arts, handbuilding, wheel throwing, decorating, glazing,and firing, and presentation of the finished ceramic piece[s].
