Description
This course builds on the fundamentals learned in Ceramics I. The emphasis is on proper wheel throwing techniques to create shapes suitable for decorative processes such as carving, sgraffito, horsehair, and majolica. New methods will be learned such as creating crackle and spring wire vessels along with learning the lid making process. Hands-on introduction to making glazes, spraying glazes and loading the bisque kiln. Personal creativity is always emphasized. Lab hours required and materials to be purchased.

Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes
Assessment based upon completion of ceramic projects and presentations, and performance on midterm and final critique (includes framing and presentation of the finished ceramic piece[s]): demonstrating knowledge and skill related to a brief history of ceramic arts, the vocabulary of and for the ceramic arts, the basic principles of 3-D design, the roles of the artist/potter and the observer, and the materials and methods used in the ceramic arts, handbuilding, wheel throwing, decorating, glazing,and firing, and presentation of the finished ceramic piece[s].
