Description
Overview of the marketing system for agricultural commodities. Topics include the effect of public policy, the role of commodity futures in the marketing system, price and price analysis, and marketing strategies. Recommended: One quarter economics. |

A. Knowledge of the marketing organization for food and the role of middlemen.
B. Knowledge of the marketing problem based upon the structure of the agricultural industry and the characteristics of the food product.
C. Knowledge of the changing patterns in food demand and consumption.
D. Knowledge of basic economic principles applicable to business marketing.
E. Knowledge of and ability to compare price cycles, price trends, and business cycles.
F. Knowledge of the marketing margin, marketing bill, and the farm-retail price spread.
G. Knowledge of the role of advertising in market development.
H. Knowledge of the different transportation modes used for agricultural products and the ability to describe and compare.
I. Knowledge of the function of the commodity futures market and its role in risk reduction.
