Description
Introduction to management theory as applied to small business firms. Course will include role of small business in the economy, forms of business ownership, main causes for business failure and success, and the elements of a business plan.

Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes
A. Knowledge of management tools used to measure business performance.
B. Knowledge of the importance of marketing to a business and the ability to use tools to evaluate and develop a marketing plan.
C. Knowledge of basic economic principles used in business decision making.
D. Knowledge of financial statements and ability to use and understand the information provided by these documents.
E. Knowledge of the importance of supervision and motivation of employees and tools used to manage the human resource.
F. Ability to make simulated business decisions and communicate the reasoning behind those decisions.
