Master Course Outline ABE Reading and Writing II Course Number: ABE 015 Credits: 1- 5 Hours per Quarter: 55 Lecture Hours:44    Lab Hours:11 Description Focus is on understanding and summarizing written material that includes unfamiliar vocabulary, reading for information, and applying it to new situations. Writing emphasizes paragraph construction with sentences that clearly express complex ideas: short reports, informal letters, memos, personal narratives. Proofreading for capitalization and punctuation, and dictionary use to learn spelling, meaning and pronunciation are also emphasized. Prerequisite: All students who are under 19 years of age must have a signed release form from the last school attended. Students 16-17 years of age must first be admitted to the College following the Underage Admissions policy, which is available in the Student Development Center. Intended Skills and Attitude Outcomes A. Students will demonstrate proficiency at a level of 70% or better in vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing assignments. B. Students will complete all Washington State Core Competencies for reading and writing, levels 1-2.
