Description
Writing classes prepare students to be effective technical writers. The course focuses on career related writing, especially for students in a professional-technical career pathway. Students compose, design, revise, and edit effective letters, memos, reports, descriptions, instructions, and employment documents. An emphasis of the course is on the use of language and graphics to communicate technical and procedural information clearly and precisely. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement score, grade C or higher in ENGL 077, or instructor permission. Recommended: OT 024 or BUS 024.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Execute planning and research strategies for writing assignments by using the outlining process.
  • Access the internet and library resources for researching information and report writing.
  • Apply the six basic qualitites of a business message: courtesy, clarity, conciseness, concreteness, correctness, and completeness.
  • Implement the guides for writing and formatting effective emails, memos, letters, and business reports.
  • Illustrate proper editing and proofreading skills.
  • Exhibit computer competencies based on the ability to file and save documents, as well as use a word processing program in order to produce professional business documents.
