Description
Students will identify insects and diseases and their life cycles within a turfgrass environment. The fundamentals of entomology and plant pathology are emphasized as well as specific turfgrass pests and their controls.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Explain insect growth and development as it relates to turfgrasses.
  • Explain insect physiology and structure and how it relates to control practices.
  • Identify and classify turfgrass insects.
  • Describe insect control principles and application techniques and timing.
  • Identify and explain turf diseases and their life cycles.
  • Identify common turf grass diseases in the field.
  • Explain the steps used in disease diagnosis principles, including the disease triangle.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of disease control principles, including fungicide resistance.
  • Identify pesticide application principles and the theory of Integrated Pest Management.
