Description
Students are introduced to turfgrass cultural practices. Topics covered include turfgrass types and cultivars, turfgrass uses, selection of grasses, turfgrass fertilization and fertilizer selection, water needs of the grass plant and irrigation, renovation practices, future trends, and turfgrass assessment techniques.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Summarize the benefits and deficits of the different types of turfgrasses.
  • Identify the different types of turfgrasses.
  • Describe the selection criteria used to determine the different uses of turfgrasses.
  • Explain the cultivar differences of turfgrasses.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of turfgrass cultivars and seed selection.
  • Summarize the criteria used for turfgrass fertilizer requirements and selection.
  • Describe and design an irrigation program for the water requirements of turfgrasses.
  • Identify future cultural trends (fertility, irrigation, mowing) and environmental issues concerning turfgrasses.
  • Describe the techniques and methods used to assess turfgrass quality.
