Description
 In-depth study on the theory, operation, service procedures, and troubleshooting necessary to maintain modern compact diesels used in compact tractor, turf equipment, and other commercial equipment.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Identify and explain the difference between diesel engine types, their components, and service requirements.
  • Perofrm preventive maintenance on different engine systems, such as fuel, oil, coolant, batteries, and air systems.
  • Display a working knowledge of how internal combustion diesel engines function.
  • Describe basic differences between different diesel fuel systems, pumps, and injectors.
  • Disassemble and repair a diesel engine, identifying and analyzing damage to pistons, valve train, crankshaft, etc.
  • Recognize and accurately identify the effects of abrasive damage and other failures that lead to engine failure.
  • Operate and observe diesel engine operation and perform necessary timing and adjustments.
  • Explain to customer cause of failure, alternatives, and ways to prevent this type of damage from taking place again.
