Description
Study of sexual facts, attitudes, morals, and behavior. Includes conception, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, abortion, physiological and psychological aspects of sexual response, varieties of sexual behavior, exploration of sexual abuse and victimization, legal issues in sexuality, sexual ethics, and society's influence on sexuality and sex roles. Course for adults--lectures and films may contain explicit language, sciences, nudity, and material. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement score or grade of C or higher in ENGL 097. Recommended: READ 088 or higher. Student may not earn credit for both PSYC 113 and WST 113. Course taken prior to fall 2010 also accepted for diversity requirement. Formerly PSY 113. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Discuss and understand sexual facts, sexual anatomy and diverse cultural attitudes about sexuality.
Explain the physiological and psychological aspects of sexual arousal and response, sexual activity and sexual feelings, as well as sexual dysfunction.
Describe the difference between gender and sex, and show knowledge about transgender, intersex and gender related issues.
Demonstrate knowledge about sexual orientation and homophobia, and societal perceptions of sexuality and masturbation, and how these and other sexual issues impact individuals across the life span.
Demonstrate understanding about sexual coercion and pornography on both an individual and societal level.
Demonstrate knowledge about current issues in sexuality both locally and worldwide.
Demonstrate critical thinking about a variety of theories and perspectives in sexuality, and an understanding of diverse viewpoints and ideas about sexuality from a broad perspective.
