Description
Study of origins and characteristics of maladaptive behavior with emphasis on scientific research on the causes and treatment approaches to psychopathology. Topics include anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, substance abuse disorders, dissociative disorders, and problems of cognitive function and childhood disorders. Prerequisite: PSYC& 100. Recommended: READ 088 or higher. Formerly PSY 250, Abnormal Psychology. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Develop a greater understanding of the close connection between mind and body and its impact on mental functioning.
Develop a capacity for critical thought and reasoning when evaluating issues dealing with abnormal human behavior.
Develop a more open attitude and empathy towards the difficulties and problems that sufferers of various mental disorders endure.
Have a greater knowledge of the various disorders and diseases of mind and brain.
