Description
Examination of American involvement in international affairs since 1898. Study includes this countrys foreign policy actions as a world power, with special attention given to both the policy makers and critics of our nations position on significant international issues from the Spanish-American War to the present. Recommended: READ 088 or higher. Student may not earn credit for both POLS 212 and HIST 212. Formerly PSCI 212. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Gain knowledge concerning U.S. Foreign Policy.
Demonstrate knowledge of historical changes in policy.
Critically interpret actions/decisions by our government, and its policy makers.
Demonstrate knowledge of the various entities involved in U.S. Foreign Policy.
Analyze foreign reactions to U.S. policy decisions/actions.

Examination of the defining characteristics of Foreign Policy
Brief examination of prior events (pre-1898)
Historical analysis of modern foreign policy, via each President/Administration
Examination of every major conflict/crisis since 1898
Examination of U.S. relations with foreign countries since 1898
Examination of all U.S. alliances (formal & informal) since 1898
Historical analysis of foreign critics of U.S. policies/decisions/actions
