Physics for Science and Engineering II

Credits: 5
Clock Hours per Quarter: 60

AA Discipline: [Natural Sciences]

Lecture Hours:40    Lab Hours:20

Description
This is part two of a calculus-based physics sequence intended for physical science and engineering majors. Topics include mechanical properties of matter, behavior of fluids, harmonic motion and waves, basic thermodynamics, and an introduction to electricity. Lab work required. Prerequisite: PHYS 201. Co-requisite: MATH& 152.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Learn the forces of stress, strain and elasticity.
  • Learn Newton's universal law of gravitation and its limitations.
  • Apply previous concepts to the study of periodic motion and fluid mechanics.
  • Describe and apply the first and second laws of thermodynamics and derive the equations relative to mechanical waves.
