Description
Fundamental course in assigning medical procedure (CPT), diagnosis (ICD-10-CM) and HCPCS codes for use in insurance billing and medical record keeping. Designed for medical coders, medical assistants, billing specialists and health information professionals. Prerequisite: OT 280. Recommended: READ 088 or higher.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Apply rules of medical coding to accurately locate codes in the CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS.
  • Interpret and apply information contained in guidelines/indexes.
  • Utilize modifiers used in coding for optimum reimbursement.
  • Identify levels of Evaluation and Management services.
  • Accurately link CPT and ICD-10 Codes to prove medical necessity.
  • Ability to sequence CPT codes for optimum reimbursement.
  • Demonstrate use of coding conventions.
  • Ability to assign to highest level of specificity and properly sequence ICD-10 codes.
