Description
Fundamental course in assigning medical procedure (CPT), diagnosis (ICD-10-CM) and HCPCS codes for use in insurance billing and medical record keeping. Designed for medical coders, medical assistants, billing specialists and health information professionals. Prerequisite: OT 280. Recommended: READ 088 or higher. |
Intended Learning Outcomes
Apply rules of medical coding to accurately locate codes in the CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS.
Interpret and apply information contained in guidelines/indexes.
Utilize modifiers used in coding for optimum reimbursement.
Identify levels of Evaluation and Management services.
Accurately link CPT and ICD-9 Codes to prove medical necessity.
Ability to sequence CPT codes for optimum reimbursement.
Demonstrate use of coding conventions.
Ability to assign to highest level of specificity and properly sequence ICD-9 codes.
