Description
Provides activities to develop each student into an effective, successful job applicant. Areas studied include labor market analysis, skills identification, applications, resume and letter writing, and interview skills. Students learn what employers look for when hiring a perspective employee, how to make oneself a more competitive job seeker, and how networking and informational interviews result in employment opportunities. Recommended for second year professional-technical students.

Intended Learning Outcomes
  • Identification of skills related to their professional-technical goal, including technical, transferable and employment skills (both training and employment related).
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the local and state labor market in their professional-technical area.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of employer expections.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use the web for job seeking and related research.
  • Develop a professional resume and cover letter.
  • Complete a draft and final application.
  • Develop an awareness of appropriate appearance when interviewing for job.
  • Demonstrate the ability to respond to employer interview questions and develop techniques for interview process.
  • Demonstrate the ability to compare job opportunities to determine best match.
  • Demonstrate the importance of self-confidence when seeking employment.
